– Young Afghanistanis in Finland

Journalist Sanna Leskinen and photographer Katja Tähjä followed the lives of nine young Afghanistanis over the course of three years. As they grew into adulthood and built their lives in Finland, they also carried the weight of responsibility for relatives left behind and the uncertainty of their residence permits and livelihoods.

Where did they find the strength to learn a new language, complete their education, pursue a profession—and, for some, even start a family? These young people reveal a side of Finland that we would not know without them.
